O C T O B E R 2019 | Hotbuys Review

Time for another month of Hotbuys, and I think a lot of us agree about this set - they were a bit of a style miss! The pieces don't entirely fit together nicely and there's quite a few different questionable styles included, the trends aren't exactly ones I'd say were current or popular. So somewhat an edited of a review this time.

F I R S T I M P R E S S I O N S

The four pieces of clothing are quite similar, the army green featuring in three of them - for me it's just not always a great colour to wear, so these are an easy pass. The Circle Skirt Blue (Evil Panda) is a little better, I like the midi style and the navy base colour along with the white piping detail, so I'm giving this one a chance, but I know it won't be for everyone. The chunky heel and square toe style of the boots sound like good ideas, but these specific pairs are in a very specific style, the colours and designs are quite eclectic and so far I've not seen either pair styled. The other accessories, however are a little more workable - the bags are not too bad^ The Belt Bag (Original Future) is a more casual street-style piece, this shade of green is more palatable, I really like it. The bag has some nice detailing, it's definitely one of the top pieces in this release. I also really very much like the Silver String Bag (Pretty 'N Love), it looks fab and the design really is something unique. I like the silken texture and the gathered style, it's super cool and I'm quite happy to try something like this out for my doll. The last piece I do like is maybe no big surprise, the Cat Eye Sunglasses (It Girls) which are a pretty standard pair with a dark lens and a white frame on the top half - they're nothing hugely special or different from other pairs we've had before, but I'm a real glutton for sunglasses so I immediately snapped them up for my collection =)

F E A T U R E
Whilst I don't like these pieces for myself, CodeKunst sure looks pretty good styling the Oversized Jacket and matching Green Pants! The brown polo and the rusted red colour of the shoes really help to brighten the styling, they work nicely with the trim details on the pieces. Love this bag with the look, and the beauty styling is awesome, the eyeshadow is a perfect fit!

S T Y L I N G S
While these looks didn't take me too long to put together, I'm not sure how enthusiastic I am about the pieces as a whole. I really like the vibe of the first look pairing the Belt Bag with this colourful sweater, the colours really work quite well and I think the green does well to stand out in the style. Also really like the sunglasses hung on and the use of the leather boots against the bag. The second styling is the one I like the least, with both the Circle Skirt Blue and the Cat Eye Sunglasses. I found it a little tricky to find blue or other coloured pieces to work with the skirt - I think this outfit looks fine, but I don't love it a lot. It would be great to see some others try out this skirt! And the final look, which is for sure my favourite, styling the Silver String Bag. I tried out quite a few pieces with this bag and I'm really pleased with this combination of a navy suit with snazzy accessories, these boots sure do attract attention too, but I really like it! It's a fun way to bring the party to more calm clothing =D

Empowering Shoulders

Ah, big padded shoulders. One of my favourite ways to make an outfit to stand out. They just give this great structure and make you look like a badass! This time I combined the big shoulders with a graphic cape, with works nicely with the all-black look. Finished it off with some YSL, can you never go wrong with that?!

Caftan and Glitter

I love these kinds of dressing gown -looking jackets, they just look so chic when combained with formal pieces such as this glittery midi skirt, which happens to be one of my favourite items in Stardoll. I matched the tone of the embroideries with the top I'm wearings and finished the look with some more sparkle in the ears. Liking this colour scheme a lot!

Creature of Comfort

Sorry I've been missing in action this week - my laptop had an update that it *really* didn't like and I've been flat on my back unwell! I open up my game, realise that I've been wearing pyjamas for like a week, then close it again, hypocrite that I am.

In reflection of my grumpy, uncomfortable mood, I've styled up an easy, comfortable look for my doll to sink herself into - a big teddy bear coat and slouchy....well everything for snuggling up next to the fire and eating all the chocolate in the house.

Miu Miu Inspired Glasses # W E S T Y L E I T

We really loved the Miu Miu Inspired Glasses from the latest Antidote collection so had to style them up together! Miloshki has gone for a cool boho vibe, I love the colour of this shawl piece with the glasses, super cute together. And I think the shape of the lens work really nicely against a floral print, it's something which gives so many outfit options for sure^ I've also used more blue in my look, and I've made this Summery maxi dress work in the cold weather with a lot of layering, all because the colour was just right! Love these scarf booties with the look too, I really should style them more =D

Powder Room Blue

The Basics release, what a treat. I bought every coat, but this smokey blue is my favourite.

My original styling was a lot softer - the chiffon shirt with a feminine skirt and pearls. That's completely valid but I think this colour is best when it's styled with punchy reds for a bit of a WAKE UP. These MSW trousers are the perfect find - a great shade and shape.

A N T I D O T E | Styled By You / / Styled By Me

We recently had a new drop of Antidote! It's been a little while since an Antidote release, while I adored the last one, this one was more of a 'miss' for me, the styles aren't so much my thing this time around. You guys liked this one though, so first up a couple of features. This look is from Jacquemus styling up the Stripe Jacket which I think looks super cool, especially layered with the cool handkerchief-style hemlines and the printing on the skirt-turned dress. Love the perspex heels, and the orange bag adds the perfect amount of colour to the styling =D
In the next look Opioides styles both the Net Dress and the Miu Miu Inspired Glasses with a retro touch. I love the fluffy lilac coat, the style really works for the dress and the matching tights are kind of everything^ The white boots make the perfect finishing touch =D The accessories are great all round, really love the inclusion of the glasses too.
I was very much attracted to the orange outfit in the middle of the store, so I bought both pieces! First up the Orange Top which is a super cute piece, I like the simple wrap design to it. I debated a long time whether to tuck or not to tuck, but then you loose the hem detail, so left untucked this time with these darker orange trousers, you really might as well go all out when you can! And continued with the orange in the accessories, I really like it^ And then the Sparkly Orange Trousers which I just love! I didn't mean to cover them up so much with the coat, but I'd say this is a pretty realistic way to wear a piece like this without it being too much in your face with colour or sparkle. I stuck with white for the shirt, shoes and bag, which I think balances nicely with the dark overcoat and the brightness of the trousers =D

Greige

I honestly thought this was a misspelling on the label of these boots, but it turns out Greige is a thing...

It's a neat little compound work for grey-beige, which is a fabulous neutral colour for autumn, especially if you're more of a cool-tone person. While I love tan with blue, I think greige has a sophistication that is harmonious rather than contrasting.

I'm ignoring that this coat is supposed to be black - I much prefer the idea of it as this kind of muddy puddle shade instead!

Black Leather Coat | Antidote
Hotbuys Cropped Turtleneck Top | Velvet Orchid
Sleeveless Sheath Dress | DKNY

H O T B U Y S R E V I S I T E D | October 2018

I say this every time, I can't believe it's been a whole year since this set of Hotbuys! I was all about the accessories with this release, the clothes weren't (and still aren't) so much my style and actually I've really liked everything that I got from this release and use them often, which is great =) For this post I'm revisiting the bags, the Fendi Inspired Handbag and the YSL Inspired Box Bag, both great pieces and perfect tones for autumnal stylings:
Ok so while my first look is a little less Autumnal with the inclusion of sandals, I really love this styling for the cool combination of colours! The bag has such cute blue detailing, so I love playing with that, and this blazer is pretty perfect fit for that. The nude base of top and trousers is great for many different colours, so both the blue and browns work out really nicely - I love this combination! A little more Autumnal for the second look but sticking with the browns, this bag is really great with that as it still manages to be a focal point despite the heavy overcoat! I contrasted that with this delicate lace jumpsuit, I really like how this combination has worked out, totally different for me but something I really think looks great =D

O R I G I N A L F U T U R E G O L D B O O T S | Styled By You / / Styled By Me

While I'm not always a huge fan of Original Future, the latest release had one piece that is perfect for me - the Gold Boots! These are awesome, the perfect boot style for the autumn and in an excellent tone of gold, they tick a lot of boxes^ Spotted starsuepretty styling these up, they look great against the navy, that's a winning combination for sure, and I love the layering of the pieces, the trousers and the fringed skirt look super cool and really caught my attention. This gold top is a perfect pairing for the boots, I think they'll be great in many other combinations too^ For my styling I stuck very neutral, choosing nudes, which gold works with very nicely. I like the smart styling for these boots, they don't have to be reserved for super fun looks at all. The little gold details are added in the shirt pin and the bag which I think helps keep the attention to the boots - I'll totally wear this look again =D

Covered Up

In Finland it was already time to dig out the puffer jackets this week! So cold – and that's what's my doll is feeling at the moment too. I used to LOVE this skirt few years ago, and now I discovered the beauty of it again. Mixed and matched it with some other tartan print and these lovely earthy tones. What do you think?

Get off the Grass!

I went to a very old, traditional university where standing on the grass is a cardinal sin, so every time I see anyone standing on any grass I get anxious. I'm expecting that disembodied voice from Princess Diaries to start yelling GET OFF THE GRASS in a variety of languages.

The grass makes a great backdrop for the fabulous green accents in this coat. I love wearing a fresh green like this in autumn because it's not the usual palette of comfy fall colours. That said, paired with the warm, earthy pink and nudes helps to keep it from being jarring.

L I M I T E D E D I T I O N | Styled Outfits

Had so much fun with the last LE release and styling up some pieces before that I just had to style up everything else that I bought - it was for sure a successful collection for me! First up the clothing - I really loved the Satin Pink Trousers, they're totally my thing, love the colour, the texture and the straight leg fit to them. I went all pink, one of my favourite things, and I quite like that they colour match is a little off, with the jacket, bag and shoes being lighter and the accessories being a little shinier, I think it works well! Secondly the Horse Print Dress, something else I've not really seen people wearing but I really REALLY love^ I found this very easy to style up for autumn, the darker horses let you work with some darker pieces which I added in the outerwear while keeping my accessories neutral. These boots are good for the season, and I like the sparkly-ness to the bag and the gold of the sunglasses and necklace - I really like filling the neckline of this piece, so I think I'll wear this necklace again with it^
And then for the accessories - they're so colourful, it's super fun! First up the Dior Inspired Bag which I bought immediately, we all know I love orange! This one is super cute with the quilted design and I played on that with an almost-matching skirt, I think the two do well together and aren't overwhelming or overwhelmed by each other. The rest of the look is super simple in black, but I love the leather boots, they work well with the skirt and bag textures. Secondly another of my favourite colours the yellow Balenciaga Inspired Bag styled up with more yellow - I'm a little predictable I think! This was such an easy piece to style and it pops out nicely against the white and also the yellow - super simple but effective. And then finally the Satin Mules, which I've not seen styled much which could be down to their different colour combination, which I've really used to an advantage! I tried to find something lilac but nothing quite worked out, so I used the yellow, green and red of the shoes in my styling, I really like it^ The green is for sure the highlighted colour in the shoes, and I like this chunky sweater against that and balanced between the yellows. The bag is a cute finishing touch, and I think a red lip would work pretty well here too!

Printing Press

The cold is almost here, can feel it in the chilly mornings.

Mood: Keeping the season transition in mind, my mood is really appropriate, drained of bright colors and any cuts or frills. Just need a good shirt, wrapped dresses, boots and I'm done.

Details: The base is made up of stardoll polo (IT Girls) and Aloha foliage shirt (Fudge). The dress is DIY of its kind, made using striped tribal tube dress (Folk) and gilded leaves skirt (Bonjour Bizou). Keeping the accessories minimal yet making a statement, opalescent clutch (MSW), Balenciaga inspired boots (Velvet Orchid), and mini aviator sunglasses (Original Future).

What's your transitional outfit for the season? Comment down below or in my guestbook,
would love to have a look!

Tune in every Thursday to check up what I wore for the week!

Nearly Nude

Underwear as overwear isn't exactly one of my signature looks, but for some reason I was really drawn to the this Antidote dress.

I wasn't interested in the bra that went over the top - I just like the garter on the white. The clean lines are exaggerated by the overlong sleeves (which is indeed a fav) and reflected in the pleats in the skirt. I chose the Dior shoes to accompany so that the garter of the shoe would meet the shadow-y garter in the dress - they don't quite, but I do like the double stripe effect. It's just overall a rather provocative look without really showing anything off. We'll leave all that to the imagination...
